About my Work
My interest in textile design and costume making started as a small child creating clothes for my dolls. My mum was an amazing knitter so I was lucky to have odds and ends of yarn to embellish my creations.
It was when I started working as a period costume maker that I realised my previous experience with textiles was to become an extra speciality that came naturally to me and is so valuable in period costume making.
Particularly for screen I feel it's vital to incorporate lots of varied textures and layers of colour, its like painting a picture.
Working with a designer to develop their ideas is a joy.
Budgets don't often allow for expensive fabrics so my challenge is to take contemporary fabrics and manipulate the surface using varied techniques to develop a finish required for the project in hand.
